– Kidnappers continue to lay siege on Edo state as abductions seem to be a daily occurrence

– A Catholic priest and four children have been kidnapped in separate incidents in the state

– One of the abducted children has been released after the parents parted with the sum of N2 million

Heavily armed men on Friday, February 14, kidnapped a priest of the Uromi Catholic Arch Diocese, Rev Father Nicholas Oboh in Benin the Edo state capital.

Chancellor Uromi Diocese, Rev Father Osi Odenore, revealed this in a statement he posted on his Facebook page.

“We are sure he is alive, and since the incident, steps have been taken to ensure that Rev Father Nicholas Oboh is released without no harm,” he wrote.

He was, however, not specific on the particular location where the abduction took place but called for prayers for the release of Father Oboh.

Similarly, New Telegraph is reporting that four children of the same family from Umelu community in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of the state were abducted by some gunmen after they had robbed residents of the area.

Sources quoted in the report said one of the abducted children has been released after the parents parted with the sum of N2 million.

Last month, suspected herdsmen killed a farmer and a policeman in Owan community, Ovia north-east local government area of the state.

The farmer was killed on Saturday, January 25, while his brother was also shot by the armed herdsmen.

When community leaders called in the police to help retrieve the body, the herdsmen reportedly fired at the police, prompting angry members of the community to stage a protest and block the Bénin-Akure highway.

Kidnappers have been having a field day in the country but security agencies have been making efforts to stop them.

About four days ago, four kidnap victims were successfully rescued from kidnappers at Sauni Hills, Lambata, a community in the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

In Plateau, troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) arrested a suspected kidnapper at a checkpoint in Plateau state.
