Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors’ forum have sent their congratulatory message to Senate Duoye Diri over the Supreme Court ruling in Bayelsa.
On behalf of the PDP governors, the director-general of the forum, C.I.D. Maduabum, said that the verdict of the court proves that God is in charge over the affairs of men, The New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Maduabum said that this development is an indicator that the truth and the wish of the people of the state, adding that this is indeed a glorious victory for democracy.
The governors prayed for God’s wisdom on the new governor-elect to direct the affairs of the state for the next four years.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, had urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to cancel plans to attend the swearing-in ceremony that was supposed to be held in Bayelsa.
Before the apex court’s ruling which sacked the governor-elect in the state, David Lyon, the ceremony was fixed for Friday, February 14.
Sani said that the president, to prove that he was for everyone, irrespective of political difference, should not postpone or cancel his trip to Bayelsa for the occasion.
However, the former senator’s comment had led to some reactions among Nigerians on social media.
A Twitter user, Kuwa Garba, said that as a supportive and staunch member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Buhari had no intention to attend the swearing-in ceremony of any other person apart from that of Lyon.
Moreover, another social media subscriber, Ojooluwa Ibiloye, said that with the way things were, Bayelsa state had no governor-elect, until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issues a certificate of return based on the apex court’s directive.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported that hours to his swearing-in as governor of Bayelsa, Lyon lost his bid to occupy the number one seat in the state.
It came as a surprise when the governor-elect was sacked by the apex judicial body. Lyon was already warming up for his swearing-in which was scheduled for Friday, February 14, when the news came in.
Photos had been circulating online, showing the governor-elect who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the rehearsal for his swearing-in.
