– Paul Onuachu scores his first goal for Genk in their 2-1 defeat to Sporting Charleroi
– The 25-year-old joined the Begian side from Midtjylland FC this summer
– Onuachu was part of the Super Eagles team that won bronze at AFCON 2019 in Egypt
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu opened his goals account for his Belgian topflight side Genk in their 2-1 defeat to Sporting Charleroi at Stade du Pays de Charleroi.
The Nigerian forward, who joined the Smurfs in a deal valued around €6 million from Midtjylland was handed his first full debut by his manager Felice Mazzu since he joined them in the summer.
Onuachu was part of coach Gernot Rohr’s team that won bronze medal at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations championship in Egypt making three appearances but had no goal tied to his name.
The forward made his debut for his new club in their 1-1 draw against Club Brugge after coming on for fellow Tanzanian forward Mbwana Samatta in their opening game.
With a goal in his first full debut for the club, he would have impressed the coaches well enough to earn a starting shirt in the team.
Meanwhile, his compatriot and the Nigeria U23 striker Stephen Odey was not dressed for the match which handed them their first defeat of the campaign.
Ryota Morioka opened scoring for the hosts through penalty in the 26th minute, and just before the half hour mark, Shamar Nicholson doubled his side lead to put hand them a two goal advantage.

However, the Nigerian star reduced the visitor’s deficit in the 61st minute but his goal was not enough to salvage at least a draw for them.
Up next for Genk will be a Champions League trip to Austria as they face Red Bull Salzburg in the first game of their opening Group E encounter on Tuesday, September 17.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored his fifth French League goal in Lille’s 2-1 win over Angers at the Stade Pierre Mauroy on Friday.
The 20-year-old former Wolfsburg forward opened scoring for Christophe Galtier’s side six minutes to the end of the first 45 minutes from a close range effort.
Osimhen, who scored 12 goals in 25 appearances for Belgian side Royal Charleroi benefited from a poor save from the opponent’s goalkeeper to tap his team ahead in the 39th minute.
