Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored his fifth French League goal in Lille’s 2-1 win over Angers at the Stade Pierre Mauroy on Friday.

The 20-year-old former Wolfsburg forward opened scoring for Christophe Galtier’s side six minutes to the end of the first 45 minutes from a close range effort.

Osimhen, who scored 12 goals in 25 appearances for Belgian side Royal Charleroi benefited from a poor save from the opponent’s goalkeeper to tap his team ahead in the 39th minute.

Luiz Araujo then doubled the hosts’ lead in the 53rd minute while Stephane Bahoken’s goal in the 87th minute ended up mere consolation for the visitors.

Meanwhile, the victory means Lille are currently third on the French League table until the remaining matches are concluded later this weekend.

The Nigeria international has however equaled Mario Balotelli’s record after scoring five goals in his first five French League matches.

Balotelli set the record between September and October 2016, but the former youth international could set a new one if he scores in his side’s next game against Rennes.

Osimhen bagged his first international goal for his country’s senior national team in their 2-2 draw against Ukraine in an international friendly earlier this week.

He is also expected to lead Lille’s attack when they face Ajax in the UEFA Champions League clash next week.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Victor Osihmen scored his third and fourth goal of the season for his new club Lille in their 3-0 victory over Saint-Etienne in a Ligue 1 game played in midweek.
